iPhone 11 Ready To Release: What’s New?

Apple’s new iPhone series is here. Apple unveiled three new iPhones – the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max – at a special event at the Steve Jobs Theatre at Apple Park in Cupertino, California earlier this week. The iPhone 11 is this year’s budget iPhone and the apparent successor to the iPhone XR. It isn’t going to be radically different than the iPhone X and iPhone XS, but there are still noticeable changes to set it apart from last year’s models.

Design

From the front, the iPhone 11 looks similar to the iPhone XR, with the thickness of the bezels too remaining roughly the same. However, it is at the back that Apple has included some new design features. The back panel now has a dual rear camera setup inside a square bump on the back. Apple has upgraded the quality of glass used on both the front and the back, which it claims is the toughest on any smartphone.

Battery

On the iPhone 11, Apple has promised even better battery life thanks to the slightly larger 3,110mAh battery. According to the company, it can offer an additional one hour of battery life when compared to the iPhone XR. It also provides reverse wireless charging and 15W fast-charging support, though the fast-charger is still not offered out of the box.

Camera

The most significant, noticeable difference is the square camera patch on the back of the two Pro models. The iPhone 11 features a primary 12-megapixel sensor and another 12-megapixel ultra-wide unit. Apple has added new features such as Portrait mode for animals, an ultra-wide mode, and a brand new night mode. You can also shoot video using the ultra-wide sensor at 4K 60fps. The new iPhone gets a 12-megapixel front camera compared to the 7-megapixel unit on the iPhone XR.

And while we’re excited to see what that new lens is capable of, the patch design has polarized Apple fans — at least in renders and mock-ups of the device. Apple could pull off a more refined look than the giant square we’ve seen from case makers and conceptual artists, but the effect will overall be much more noticeable than triple-lens cameras we’ve seen from other smartphone makers.

Colors

Apple usually plays it safe when it comes to iPhone colors and finishes on its high-end models, saving the fun hues for lower-priced phones. The color options available for the iPhone 11 are Purple and Green, with the older ones Yellow, White, Black, and Red still around.

Hardware

With the iPhone 11, Apple has upgraded the internals to make the affordable iPhone more powerful than ever. It gets a new A13 Bionic chipset, which is claimed by Apple to be the fastest CPU on a smartphone. The chipset is reportedly paired with 4GB RAM.

A Tougher iPhone

Apple boasts that this year’s phones are the toughest yet. Much of the advertising revolves around their resistance to falls and liquid immersion. The iPhone 11 has a dust- and water-resistance rating of IP68. That’s the highest rating commonly given to consumer products and an upgrade from the IP67 bestowed upon the iPhone XR.

The firm describes the 11 as “splash, water and dust-resistant”. It is said to be it was “tested under controlled laboratory conditions with a rating of IP68 under IEC standard 60529 (maximum depth of 2m up to 30 minutes)”. It’s also reportedly protected against accidental spills from coffee and other common liquids.

The release date is set for September 10, with pre-orders going live from Friday, September 13. It goes on sale on September 20. The new iPhone 11 has storage options starting at 64GB, going up to 128 GB. The Pro and Pro Max come in three storage sizes. The small 64GB option is joined by the default-best-for-most-people 256GB, and the power-user-maxed-out 512GB. There’s no 128GB size this year, for the Pro and Pro max models. With no expandable storage on offer, some might moan that there’s no 1TB option, as there is with the Note 10 and Note 10 Plus.

With the new iPhone 11 series, comes new challenges and opportunities for app designers and developers. How can you provide a better user experience to your users who will be using these new models? What are the tricks and tips? Speak to our design experts for more details.

The New Apple iPhone 8 And iPhone 8 Plus Launched

The biggest wait of the year is finally over with Apple announcing the new Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus at their annual event on 12th September. The hype about the latest iPhone was more than ever, and everyone was eagerly waiting to get their hands on the new Apple babies. The event also witnessed the launch many other Apple products. Let’s quickly check out what’s new in the latest phones from Apple.

Design & Aesthetics

If you are an apple enthusiast and were expecting ground breaking changes in the latest iPhone, then you would be a bit disappointed. The looks of the new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are pretty much similar to their predecessors. Although, they have a new glass coated back cover which gives them a considerably fresh look. The design is not all about the shine, gloss, and shimmer. It has a bit of subtle touch adding to its class. The backglass blends into the sides of the phone incredibly well which was missing in the previous versions of the phone. The glass back supports wireless charging which is of the biggest new features. Apple boasts that it has the hardest glass back ever put on a phone. Overall, the back of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus looks slightly better than its predecessors.

Talking about the front, it picks up the fingerprints quite smoothly and swiftly. The glass has an excellent cloudy finish which is a couple of notches higher than the iPhone 7. Everything else is pretty much like the iPhone 7. It still has the touch Id and still uses the force touch thing, unlike a physical button.

Sound

I think the inclusion of actual stereo headphones in the latest iPhone would bring a smile on quite a few faces. The earpiece up top can get super loud to provide proper stereo separation while you’re watching a video.

Display

The iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch (diagonal) widescreen LCD Multi-Touch display with IPS technology, 1334-by-750-pixel resolution at 326 ppi, and 1400:1 contrast ratio (typical). The iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen LCD Multi-Touch display with IPS technology, 1920-by-1080-pixel resolution at 401 ppi, and 1300:1 contrast ratio (typical). True Tone Display, 3D touch, Dual -domain pixels for wide viewing angles, etc. are some of the other features of the two phones. To be honest, you will not be able to make out the difference between the display of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in comparison to its predecessors while looking at the screen in appropriate lighting conditions.

Camera

The camera is the biggest highlight of the new iPhones. The new camera features stand out as compared to its older versions especially the portrait lighting feature on iPhone 8 Plus. Although the artificial lighting effects are still a step away from being 100 percent real, they are far ahead of any other mobile phone camera gimmick. They are more natural, subtle and close to reality. You’ll have a lot of fun playing with it.

The Apple newbies will ride on an A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture, Neural Engine, and Embedded M11 motion coprocessor. The company has offered only two compositions this year. Both the phones are available in an entry level of 64GB and an upgraded model of 256GB. One would have to shell out $699 for the base model of iPhone 8 and $799 for the base model of iPhone 8 Plus. Both the phones will be available from 22 September.

To conclude, these new iPhones are no more than an improvised update of the existing iPhones. However, the updates have been not been restricted to just a few upgrades here and there like we have noticed previously in the ‘S’ versions. The phone has a new processor, the A11 Bionic, which is very fast and even the camera has some amazing features including the new 12-Megapixel sensors and an image processor in built by Apple. We can only say that there are a plenty of new features to play around with, only if you’re a diehard Apple fan.

Mobile cameras were a known concept even before iPhone. 4. Fingers Became The New Pointing Devices

Touchscreens were not really popular back in 2007. However, 10 years from then we are swiping and making hand gestures around literally everything. From mobiles to even smart refrigerators, touchscreen is everywhere. When Steve Jobs introduced iPhone he said: “We are all born with the ultimate pointing device – our fingers – and iPhone uses them to create the most revolutionary user interface since the mouse.” Well! he couldn’t be more correct.

5. No Longer a Lost Tourist

Google maps and Apple maps are the two most widely used mobile apps. With, the introduction of mapping in iPhones, carrying a physical map when in a new city or country was completely eliminated. Apple has added new features time and again on Apple maps to make it more user-friendly and accurate.

iPhone revived the gaming concept to a whole new level. With the touchscreen concept in front seat, games like Angry Birds became hugely popular. Another big change was that most of the games and apps became free. The revenue model of apps tilted from an upfront download charge to in-app purchases and ads.

Yes! Mobile payments were even talked about before iPhone but it got extremely popular with the iPhone. The popularity of mobile payments grew exponentially and touched even the non-techy users. iPhone’s mobile wallet helps you manage your payments, retail coupons, rewards cards, movie passes, flight passes and a lot more.

8. The Appification

Interestingly, the first version of iPhone didn’t have the app store and third-party apps option. It was in the next version (iPhone 3G) when Apple introduced the App Store. iStore made iPhone a must have device. iPhone has produced industries which couldn’t have been thought of without the app store. Think of Uber, Snapchat, Instagram and thousands of other businesses that totally depend on apps.

9. Life Becomes Live

iPhone has played a vital role in enhancing the real-time connectivity between people. With ease of access to the internet and camera that acts as a cam recorder too, people can connect to their friends and families across the globe. Services like Facebook live or Periscope allows users to report mishaps and incidents on a real time basis.

10. The No More Effect

iPhone literally killed a lot of age-old tools and services. People needn’t carry a calculator, Flashlight or Mp3 players anymore. Apple Basically killed Adobe Flash and video voicemails provide ease of skipping forward to in a message. With Podcasts, the real-time radio was no longer required.

It’s nearly impossible to sum up 10 golden years of iPhone in mere 10 points. However, one thing is for sure that iPhone has definitely revolutionised the concept of mobile phones. Apple has set a new benchmark for not only itself but for every mobile device manufacturer, only to benefit the consumers. Congratulations Apple iPhone on completing a scintillating decade.
